你知道在機場聞行李箱超萌的檢疫犬可能是從美國來的嗎？2002年起，在美國訓練的23隻檢疫犬陸續引進到台灣，協助防範植物病蟲害和動物疾病入侵台灣。這些檢疫犬有15隻還在執勤中，目前是防堵非洲豬瘟的大功臣。這些檢疫犬是美台動植物檢疫主管機關密切合作的絕佳例子，讓台灣的農業生產和自然生態系統免受外來植物病蟲害和動物疾病的侵害！
Did you know that cute beagle you saw at the airport sniffing your luggage likely came from the United States? Since 2002, 23 U.S.-trained beagles and mix-breed beagles have been imported into Taiwan and have become part of Taiwan’s defense against invasive plant pests and animal diseases. Fifteen of these canines remain active and are a key component of Taiwan’s current quarantine safeguards against the introduction of African swine fever (ASF). These beagles are an another example of the excellent working relationship that exists between animal and plant health regulatory authorities in the United States and Taiwan and make an effective contribution to keeping Taiwan’s production agriculture and natural ecosystems safe from foreign-origin plant pests and animal diseases.
